Chapter 382: The Unplanned First Dance
Chapter 382: The Unplanned First Dance
"Where did it land?" she whispered to her husband.
"Right in Uncle Bai's hand. It was aimed at his head, but he protected himself," Mo Qingchen muttered.
Qian Meng shuddered at the absolute turn of events. No doubt, Uncle Bai would be embarrassed.
She turned about with an embarrassed chuckle. She pretended to look surprised and then chuckled. "Uncle Bai, you are looking good with the bouquet in your hand," she commented. No one made any comments about upcoming marriages or the like. It was not in anyone's interest.
"Thank you for the flowers, Qian Meng. I haven't received a gift like this in years!" Uncle Bai chimed good-humoredly, knowing that the situation was a bit normal.
Thankfully, no one could guess the underlying awkwardness, especially the cameras.
For the rest of the celebration, Uncle Bai didn't part with the bouquet. He kept it on his lap and had a pleasant smile. He had realized it was all in good faith and it meant nothing. So, he didn't mind the beautiful bouquet that had befallen him.
The funny speeches were made, but the focus was on the food. There was no expensive steak or gold-covered deserts.
Most brides preferred big, tiered cakes at their weddings, but Qian Meng didn't like those mammoths. She had a small party of thirty-something people attending and a big cake was an absolute waste. Especially when some of these people have diabetes and high blood pressure. Instead, she went online and looked for highly rated bakeries in the area. She found a quaint mom-and-pop bakery with social media accounts filled with delicious pictures.
From the plethora of pictures, she picked out the most elegant but simple-looking cupcake.
The cupcakes were plain at first sight, but the white, fluffy icing on top of it was adorned by half of a fig. The tiniest quantity of maple was drizzled on the top and it was garnished with crushed walnuts. On the side, a ripe blueberry sat, reading for picking. Each person had such a platter in front of them.
For the food menu, Qian Meng had taken on a picnic basket style of meal. The ingredients used were fresh vegetables, fruits, and seafood from the local sellers. The caterer had gone according to her plan and made it all comfortable and nothing too fancy. But still, it was delicious.
In the end, the research employee who had traveled to Qiandao to taste all the menu items and live in the cabin to test everything out would be getting an extra bonus for a job well done.
And just like this… the party continued into the night.
Qing Yuan was back in front of the speakers, acting as the DJ. Soft music floated in the air as everyone laughed and conversed. But finally, Xiao Chen clapped his hands.
"Ladies and gentlemen, can we welcome the bride and the groom to the dance floor. It is time for their first dance!" he said.
Qingchen rolled his eyes.
Their first dance had been long before this wedding but none of these people knew.
"He can dance?" someone chimed.
Li Li Hua chuckled. "I have never seen him dance, but I think he can…" she told the person asking.
"Show us how you move your hips better than Shakira!" someone else hollered. Word had traveled about Qingchen's confidence in dancing. Qian Meng was absolutely sure that these people wouldn't allow him to stand around and not prove himself.
As the music floated, Mo Qingchen dropped down to his knees in front of Qian Meng, who he knew would dance even if there were a million eyes on her. He knew that she had chosen a song, but what it was… he didn't know. She hadn't asked him to go to dance classes or mentioned it.
"Just follow my lead," she had said and he had shrugged it off. It meant that he could avoid dancing if he wished.
Right then, he wanted nothing more than to see what she had up her sleeve.
"What are you doing?" Qian Meng asked in wonder as she tugged a piece of hair behind her ear and looked down at him. He hitched the hem of her dress a few inches.
"Hold onto my shoulder," he told. She did so immediately and felt him raise on foot and then carefully take off her shoe. Then he moved to the other. "You go wild when you dance. I don't want you spraining your legs." He patted her calf and then looked up. "Don't trip over your dress."
She smiled.
She stepped away from him, her hands bunching up her dress without grace and pulled them up so that it didn't hinder her walk.
Qingchen watched in confusion at her teasing smile.
"Come on, hubby…" she teased. "Won't you dance with me?" That smile and the mischief in her eyes… how could he resist that.
"How?" he asked.
She tilted her head. "However you want. When have we followed the rules?"
He slowly stood up and bit his lip as he watched her slowly shimmy to the music.
She sang the song loudly so that everyone could hear. MO Qingchen laughed at how out of tune she was but slowly walked to her. He mouthed the words as the others cheered and hollered.
What followed was spontaneous singing, twirls and dips, and just pure jumping with joy.
Qingchen didn't look elsewhere as Qian Meng asked the others to join in the dance. They were surrounded by people, all singing and dancing, the most passionate and loud of them all his own wife.
He closely followed her, his fingers barely able to leave the skin of her back as she moved around without faltering.
At the end of the night, he was gasping for breath, unable to keep up with her excitement and happiness, but still willing to do whatever she wished. He swayed with her and whispered sweet-nothings in her ears as her fingers played with the hair at the back of his neck.
"Was the wedding what you expected?" Mo Qingchen asked her.
"It was everything and more," she said. "Ah… I want to marry you again." She bemoaned.
He chuckled softly. "Let me know any day. I will marry you a hundred times… a thousand if it pleases you." 'Because I have never felt happier in my life.'
