Chapter 3
3
No matter where you look in the castle town, you will not find a place more beautiful than this manor. I could confidently say that even if it was the home of the richest person in Dongdong Lake, it would not be this nice.
Dan Woo-hyeon’s skills in building houses were outstanding.
He has dexterity that would be hard to think of as someone who lived by eating knives. It made me wonder if perhaps his calling was to be a carpenter rather than a military officer.
There is a large pond dug in the spacious manor yard. It appears that he scooped up water from Dongjeong Lake, and he managed to do it all by himself.
There were lotus flowers floating on the pond, and there were quite sturdy fish inside them, swimming and playing.
These are also things caught through fishing.
In the very center of the manor yard, there was a gigantic pine tree. It was a
gigantic tree that was a thousand years old, so its height was truly enormous, so much so that its shape could be seen even outside the fence.
Thanks to the gorgeous and majestic pine trees, Jangwon seemed even more flavorful. It played a role in making anyone feel that this manor was not built in vain.
Also, at the back of the building, which can be called the main building, there is a small training hall and next to it is a space that can be called a kitchen.
The time it took to create all of this was at most three days. A task that would have taken months even if an average person mobilized all of his workers was accomplished with great ease.
And now Dan Woo-hyeon is hammering away as if he is still not satisfied.
Thump thump thump!
Hwa So-mi was quietly looking at Dan Woo-hyeon while holding her dripping nose.
I’m not trying to do anything in particular.
Even though his hands were small, he was there to run errands because he wanted to help Dan Woo-hyeon even a little.
It’s not because there’s nothing to do at the manor.
I looked at Dan Woohyun like that for a while.
If you could make a hole in a person’s body just by looking at him, Dan Woohyun would have hundreds of holes all over his body right now.
Finally, Hwa So-mi, unable to bear the boredom, opened her mouth.
“mister.”
“Why are you doing that?”
“What are you making?”
I muttered softly.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wondered whether I should speak or not because I know that you don’t like being interrupted when you’re working.
For the young Hwa So-mi, these words were quite courageous. In fact, I kept looking at him from the side, but I couldn’t figure out what Woohyun was making.
At first glance, it looked like a simple barrel.
“It’s a tub for taking a bath.”
“bath…..?”
“Yes, washing your body.”
Hwa So-mi slowly stood up from her seat.
Now that I think about it, I realized that a lot of water had been taken from Dongdong Lake a little while ago. At first I wondered what it was for, but now I think I understand.
A bath.
“Stand there.” Dan Woo-hyeon called out to Hwa So-mi, who was trying to run away.
Hwa So-mi, who had been sneaking away like a cat, suddenly stopped. To her, Dan Woo-hyeon’s words are literally worth a thousand gold.
“I sold the wild boar and wood I caught yesterday to buy clothes. “Of course, if you want to wear new clothes, your body must be clean.”
“Oh, you look great even if you don’t wash it.”
“I am, but you are not.”
“No, no! Somi is completely clean too?”
Dan Woohyun snorted. Clean?
I had only slept on the bed I had made for one day, but there was old dirt all over it.
The clothes had been washed for so long that the black stains didn’t even appear on them.
Even look at that face.
There were clear signs of runny nose, and there was all kinds of dirt on his face. The wounds from the blows had not yet subsided, to the point where it was difficult to tell whether the child was a boy or a girl.
Dan Woo-hyeon started pouring the water he brought from Dongdong Lake into the bucket. Looking at it, Hwa So-mi swallowed dry saliva. I felt anxious that I might freeze to death if I took a bath on a cold day like this.
I really felt like I was going to die.
The child just jumped and ran.
He headed straight to the manor’s gate. It was so fast that it could not be considered a small movement. However, I felt as if someone was pulling me from behind and I was dragged straight to where Dan Woo-hyeon was.
“uh? uh?”
Hwa So-mi raised her eyes in confusion at the absurd situation. But the thought did not last much longer.
Suddenly, along with a harsh splashing sound, a cold energy engulfed my entire body.
Growling-!
I struggled several times and made a fuss, but Dan Woo-hyeon was so strong that I couldn’t escape.
“Puhutr
“There’s no way the time will pass just by soaking it in water.”
Dan Woo-hyeon reached out his hand and quickly wiped the child’s face. Every time that happened, the black water dripped down Dan Woo-hyeon’s hand.
I took off all my worn-out clothes. Hwa So-mi, who was naked in an instant, was shocked, but Dan Woo-hyeon was not a strange person who developed sexual desires upon seeing the body of a child.
Every inch of my body was washed.
The water instantly became dirty. It smelled so bad that I felt like I had to cover my nose.
I touched it, but I never wanted it to splash on my body.
“How on earth do I end up like this if I don’t wash my face?”
“I don’t know! Hung….” Dan Woo-hyeon’s rough touch never stopped, and Hwa So-mi eventually collapsed into tears.
After half an hour, I took out Hwa So-mi, whose eyes had become like a half-dead fish, and cleaned her body from every nook and cranny.
There was so much fuss while taking a bath that even Danwoohyeon was soaked and wet.
Dan Woo-hyeon, who had changed all of Hwa So-mi’s clothes, also changed into the new white jangsam he had bought, although it wasn’t very nice. Hwa So-mi stared intently at him taking off his clothes without hesitation.
“What is it all about?”
It was a question about the wounds on Dan Woo-hyeon’s body. There were so many cuts and stab wounds that I had to look away just looking at them.
But Hwasomi did not ignore it.
He was so calm that it was hard to believe that he was acting like he was still young and didn’t know anything.
Dan Woohyun chuckled.
“It’s a wound of glory.”
“glory? Are you eating it?”
“No,
don’t associate it with eating anything.”
“My mom said that eating well and sleeping well are the best things in the world.”
Of course, it’s not wrong.
If you eat well, it means you are richer, and if you sleep well, it means you stay in a nice house.
“Haha, that’s true. But it is different from that. “Can we say that these are traces left by the journey to become the best?”
“The best? “Are you a carpenter?” In Hwa So-mi’s opinion, Dan Woo-hyeon was definitely a carpenter.
There’s no way I could make something this good.
Looking around the room as well as this house, there is nothing that was purchased; it is only things that Dan Woo-hyeon made with his own hands.
Just looking at this, Hwa So-mi was convinced that Dan Woo-hyun was a carpenter with unrivaled skills.
“A carpenter—no.”
“Aren’t you a carpenter? “Then what is it?”
“Not everyone who is good at working with wood is a carpenter. “I just use a sword better than others.”
“A knife? Sleep? But all the dishes he cooked were either grilled or eaten raw…”
Uh-ha8}8}*……”
“Ah! ‘I became a beggar because I couldn’t cook.’
Hwa So-mi looked deeply(?) as if she was convinced, and gave a look of dismay.
I’m good at catching food, but I’m really bad at cooking it. So it seemed like he understood that he could not do his homework properly and ended up becoming a beggar.
“It wasn’t even a sleepover.”
“Then tell me a little more.”
Dan Woo-hyeon swallowed a groan and sat down at the table.
How should I explain it?
He wandered the world killing people with a knife. But can that be called a job? No matter how much I thought about it, I was at a loss as to how to explain it.
Because I didn’t really make any money from it.
And it was Hwa So-mi’s innocent face that made it difficult to truthfully say that she had killed someone. Because I wanted to be a more honest person than anyone else in front of this child.
In the end, I had to just gloss over it and move on.
“There’s nothing useful to know, so let’s stop. By the way, do your clothes fit well?”
“yes! “This is my first time wearing clothes like this!”
Hwa So-mi jumped up from her seat and spun around. It looks like he really likes the clothes. It wasn’t expensive clothing made of silk, but it was made at a local store using high-quality fabric.
Thanks to that, it was quite expensive.
So much so that I spent most of the money I earned from selling wood and leather on buying that one set of clothes.
“I’m glad it fits well. I was worried that I might get hit…”
Hwa So-
mi flopped down on the chair and waved both swords back and forth. Then he looked at Dan Woo-hyeon with round eyes.
I didn’t know what he wanted to say, but his spotlessly clear eyes contained only Dan Woohyun.
“It’s okay even if I don’t fit in – Even if I wear cheaper clothes than this, even if I’m hungry… It’s okay Somi. As long as I’m with you, anything is okay.”
Dan Woo-hyeon was looking at Somi with a blank look.
There was no pretense whatsoever in his innocent expression and tone of voice.
When have you ever heard sincere words come from the heart?
To put it bluntly, there has never been one.
Everyone who approached him was trying to get something or take his head. Every time they uttered a word, it stabbed a dagger deep into Dan Woo-hyeon’s heart.
Somi’s words touched his heart.
I looked away without realizing it.
I couldn’t look straight at Hwa So-mi.
Perhaps this child also has a purpose. However, it may not be for profit, but simply a desire to be together.
That, too, could perhaps be said to be the benefit that this child can gain from Dan Woo-hyeon. But that doesn’t mean that Woohyun is harmed.
That’s why my heart goes out even more.
I can’t help but be concerned.
I really thought that this child could fill the empty void of a thousand years.
Dan Woo-hyeon smiled without realizing it and looked away.
“You little one is just talking nonsense.”
“My mom always said, Somi is young, but her hair is old. “I don’t really know what that means…”
“It means you sound like an old man.”
“What is that? Are you eating it?”
I tilt my head again.
It seemed like he really didn’t understand.
Dan Woo-hyeon was so dumbfounded that he burst out laughing.
This child only thinks about eating everything. I thought maybe it was because I had been starving for a long time.
I reached out my hand and stroked my head.
As if it felt good, Hwa So-mi closed her eyes and smiled.
“I wish I could live quietly like this.”
“You can do that!”
“Haha, yes, I really wish that were the case.”
Dan Woo-hyeon gazed at the scenery outside the window. The wind blew through the open window. The wind carefully wrapped around Danwoo string and did not move as if it had stopped.
Dan Woo-hyeon knew better than anyone else.
People who live on a diet of meat can never escape that fate. The wind blowing on Danwoohyeon right now stayed at the tip of the blade.
I hope so.
It didn’t matter if martial arts regressed, hoping
that this wind would never flow again .
I just desperately hoped that this peace would not be broken.
That was the only wish Dan Woo-hyeon had right now. This moment was more satisfying than the intense and bloody life I had in the past.
With a grin, Dan Woo-hyeon opened his mouth and said,
“Well, now that we’ve finished dressing up, shall we go up the mountain?”
“Okay, I’ll feed Somi something delicious today hehehe.”
Dan Woo-hyeon stroked the head of Hwa So-mi, who smiled brightly again.
