Chapter 27 - 27: Getting Along Well with Roommates
Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Getting Along Well with Roommates
Chapter 27: Getting Along with Roommates
The pedestrian flow on the university campus street was substantial, with ninety percent of it comprised of freshmen. They were enticed to cross the road and eat mainly due to the novelty factor.
The older students, however, were a different story. They had grown accustomed to the daily grind of university life and often found even buying a meal outside to be too much trouble.
Of course, this didn't apply to those with significant others.
People in relationships would go to great lengths to spend time together.
Jiang Qin brought Feng Nanshu to a roadside stall and ordered tomato and egg stir-fry, twice-cooked pork, sour fish, and spicy and sour shredded potatoes.
Deciding what to order when eating out was always a timeless dilemma. Fearful of choosing something they hadn't tried before or something too extravagant, Jiang Qin consistently stuck to these four dishes. He rarely made a bad choice, a skill honed during his previous life as a white-collar worker ordering takeout.
While waiting for their food, passersby couldn't help but stop and gaze at the well-behaved Feng Nanshu, their eyes filled with admiration.
Some were so captivated that they couldn't snap back to reality and accidentally bumped into the stall.
Jiang Qin clicked his tongue, wearing a displeased expression.
Serves them right for coveting my wealthy wife. Why didn't they just jump into the chef's frying pan?
He shifted his gaze, stacked two sets of utensils together, rinsed them with hot water, and then focused his attention on Feng Nanshu.
"You mentioned earlier that you eavesdropped on your roommate's conversation outside the dormitory door. What did they say?"
"They think you're aloof and hard to approach. They don't want to live with a 'rich girl' like you."
Feng Nanshu wiped her mouth, occasionally glancing at the black wok in the stall owner's hands.
After hearing her response, Jiang Qin nodded, getting a general sense of the five girls' attitudes.
The little rich girl was exceptionally beautiful and had a natural aura around her. She even arrived with a bodyguard, which made for quite an impressive entrance. Although her offer to help with cleaning seemed like a kind gesture, it actually created a sense of pressure throughout the entire dormitory.
As for this heiress, who her roommates saw as a female version of Dragon Ao Tian...
She was currently fixated on the large black wok, oblivious to the explosive effect of her actions.
In reality, solving this issue perfectly was quite simple, as those girls were more afraid of her than resentful. A small gesture of goodwill should suffice.
However, Feng Nanshu was genuinely naive, often failing to get her point across with words. Expressing kindness through language wasn't her strong suit, so she needed to find another way.
"Jiang Qin, I want to eat that!"
Jiang Qin followed the direction of her finger and saw a small cart selling rainbow cotton candy nearby. "No, you don't want to eat that."
Feng Nanshu swallowed and asked, "Can I buy it for myself?"
"That stuff is full of artificial coloring. After eating it, your tongue will change color. Be obedient and don't eat it."
"I'll buy one for you too. What color do you like? I like pink. How about blue for you?"
Jiang Qin was starting to lose his composure. "Can you please stop trying to bribe me with such childish things? No official can resist this kind of bribery. When I say no, I mean no."
Feng Nanshu quickly reverted to her aloof demeanor. "Childish? Huh, you've never even been on a carousel."
"?????"
Jiang Qin widened his eyes in disbelief. He thought, "I can't believe you're already resorting to tattletaling, and to think I'd go on a carousel just for you?!"
"Jiang Qin, is there a carousel nearby?"
"Forget it."
Jiang Qin imagined the two of them playing on a carousel at a crowded intersection and couldn't help but shudder.
In the midst of their conversation, the owner had already prepared their food and skillfully placed it on their table.
Seeing the food, Feng Nanshu became delighted and no longer made any extravagant requests.
After dinner, Jiang Qin took Feng Nanshu to a supermarket and picked up some snacks from the shelves, dividing them into five bags.
"I don't need all of these. I can't eat that much."
"It's not for you."
Feng Nanshu was taken aback by his response, and her small face instantly drooped.
Jiang Qin didn't notice her change in expression and continued to pack the sweets into the bags.
"You're not good at talking, so you don't have to say much in the future. Just smile more in the dormitory."
"Your roommates don't actually dislike you; they just find you a bit unapproachable, which creates pressure for them. So you need to proactively show kindness."
"They say that actions speak louder than words. When you give them these snacks, they will know you are easy to get along with."
Jiang Qin took her to the checkout counter, and as they left the supermarket, he suddenly remembered what Guo Zihang had said: "Damn, I really do sound like your dad now."
Feng Nanshu was a bit flustered, "No, I already have a dad. I just want to be friends with you."
"This is just a metaphor!"
"Oh... You scared me."
By the time they returned to the school from the pedestrian street, it was already nighttime. The whole campus was filled with the scent of hormones, and there were bound to be couples lurking in dark corners.
Jiang Qin walked ahead, carrying the bag of snacks, while Feng Nanshu followed in her little shoes. The two of them strolled under the moonlight, with a gentle breeze on the left and sparkling water on the right.
As they walked, Jiang Qin suddenly stopped, and the unsuspecting little heiress behind him, unable to brake in time, bumped into his back unexpectedly, round and warm, soft and bouncy.
Jiang Qin lifted the corners of his mouth, thinking that someone as naturally clueless as Feng Nanshu would surely not perceive his true intentions.
So, he repeated this flirtatious move several times along the way, only stopping when they reached the female dormitory building.
"Here are the things for you. Remember to distribute them when you get back," Jiang Qin said with an air of righteousness.
"Okay," Feng Nanshu took the bag and asked, "Can I sneak a little snack?"
"No, you can't."
"Oh."
Jiang Qin put on a serious expression and emphasized each word, "I'm serious. If something gets eaten by you and it results in everyone else having some except for one person, the consequences could be troublesome."
After a moment of silence, Feng Nanshu grasped the situation a bit better and asked, "Can I choose one thing and eat five of them in a row?"
"You... You're really a little smartypants."
Jiang Qin couldn't quite tell if he was praising or mocking her. He waved his hand and bid farewell to the little heiress, then walked out of the female dormitory area under the moonlight.
After watching him leave, Feng Nanshu lowered her head and looked at her own chest, her eyelashes trembling slightly, as if lost in thought.
What's so good about this thing that everyone wants to touch it, even when they're not satisfied with just looking?
The little heiress remained silent for a while, then carried the five bags of snacks and went upstairs. The girls of Room 503 were originally chatting happily, but when she pushed the door open, all the voices inside abruptly stopped, and everyone turned their gaze toward her, their eyes filled with tension and curiosity.
Feng Nanshu took a deep breath and walked in, placing the bags of snacks one by one on their desks, then bit her lip without saying a word.
After a while, Fan Shuling suddenly cleared her throat and exchanged a glance with the other four people next to her.
"Um, Feng Nanshu, we're reporting tomorrow at eight o'clock. Would you like to go together?"
"Yeah, let's go together. If we have nothing to do in the afternoon, maybe we can have another meal together?"
Feng Nanshu smiled and nodded happily. The five roommates immediately breathed a sigh of relief and quickly pulled her to sit in the middle.
The atmosphere in the dormitory became lively, with laughter like silver bells filling the air. However, Feng Nanshu still struggled with conversation and mostly listened quietly.
Jiang Qin was probably concerned about her current situation, as he sent her a QQ message not long after, asking if she had delivered the snacks.
Feng Nanshu replied with a simple "yes" and then looked out at the pitch-black window.
She felt a subtle, indescribable fluttering in her chest, similar to the loneliness she had felt before but somehow different.
