Chapter 186: Hunting a True God!?
At this moment, Sterl's avatar, disguised as a burly man with a full beard, lay in the soil, listening to the distant conversation of the deities.
Sure enough, he sensed that the avatar had been discovered, with an immensely powerful thought sweeping over him.
But the deities couldn't care less...
They weren't worried about any intelligence leaks; they had just wanted the players to leave earlier to avoid them being directly killed by the aftermath.
"Lords, what can we do for you?"
Willis's subordinates put on flattering smiles, desperately trying to secure a chance at survival.
However, the deities present didn't even bother to look at them.
Do the thoughts of ants matter?
The elderly God of Shadows and Conspiracy smiled and said, "Don't be nervous, I just need to borrow something from you."
"What a classic plot development!" Sterl's avatar transmitted the message, and his true self couldn't help but mock in his mind.
Clearly, Willis's subordinates also knew what was coming.
Typically, when someone says they want to borrow something in situations like this, it usually means they want your head.
Facing the deities, they all unleashed their strongest skills, and after casting their abilities, they tried to tear open a teleport scroll to escape...
However...
Before the glow of their skills could even flicker at their fingertips, their movements were already frozen!
Gloria took action, her Moon Law even freezing the thoughts of Willis's subordinates.
They were left dazed, suspended in mid-air.
"Begin."
"It's rare to find those marked, and outside the Hall of Valor's main hall, in this peripheral area, we stumbled upon them."
"Let's get this done quickly before anything changes."
The old man spoke slowly.
At this moment, the God of Trade and God of Heaven Water stepped forward.
In their hands, they held strange sigils, and in an instant, Willis's subordinates were covered in dark red patterns, their skin burning and dissolving...
Eventually, their flesh eroded all the way to the bone, and they disintegrated into pools of blood, dying in a most gruesome manner.
Thankfully, under the influence of Moon Law, they likely didn't even realize they were dying...
In a way, Willis's subordinates' final struggle ended up benefiting them.
Within the pools of blood, faint dark purple sigils flickered.
Although extremely tiny, practically unnoticeable to normal people...
Sterl, having once ascended, could sense it keenly with his avatar. That was a trace of Divine Power.
If the Divine Power Gloria had previously implanted into the players during the Netherworld layout was quantified as 0.01 units, the Divine Power in the blood now was perhaps only one-thousandth or even one-ten-thousandth of that!
As the deities continued their ritual, various spells were cast into the blood, and the blood kept being refined, ultimately emitting a blinding light!
The light shot straight into the sky! The old man then fully activated his Divine Power, and the figures of the five deities vanished entirely...
After a long time, a figure was summoned.
"Who dares to break my contract?" The speaker was a middle-aged man dressed in magnificent robes.
Sterl's avatar recognized him as soon as he saw him: the God of Trade and Conspiracy.
"Is there really a god like this? Both divine authorities are quite abstract, and his divine authority overlaps with those of two gods in Gloria's team..."
Sterl's true self pondered silently, sensing the information being transmitted back.
As he walked with Faye, a group of players surrounded them, ingratiating themselves.
"Brother David, what's your relationship with the Dark Moon Goddess...?"
"David...?"
Sterl ignored them completely, his mind focused on his avatar.
"Mr. David, is something wrong?" Faye asked curiously, noticing Sterl's slight stiffness and twitching face.
"Nothing," Sterl replied dismissively.
In reality, his avatar had just witnessed an unbelievable scene!
The God of Trade and Conspiracy initially looked around casually.
"Where is my contractor?"
He was puzzled.
This god had just received messages from marked "pigs" trying to break their contracts and felt a surge of his own Divine Power.
He thought it was a cry for help from one of his demigod or legendary-level contractors, but upon arrival, found the area completely empty.
"Contractor?" Sterl sensed through his avatar, initially puzzled.
If Willis were still alive and saw the God of Trade and Conspiracy, he would be terrified!
This was his biggest creditor!
The reason is somewhat complicated—
Gods enhance their power by gathering faith, and the most perfect faith is related to their divine authority. For example, Sterl's divine authorities [Human] and [Nature] are quite advantageous.
Creating humans in the mental realm to worship him aligns with the [Human] divine authority. Creating one planet after another through star-related professions and arcane skills falls under the jurisdiction of the [Nature] divine authority. Thus, even though his power is weak, he accumulates faith rapidly.
As for the God of Trade and Conspiracy, his subordinates and followers need to practice both trade and conspiracy to align with his dual divine authorities.
The end product is what's widely known in the Hall of Valor and the surrounding continents as "Divine Assistance."
Named assistance, but in reality, it's high-interest loans, impossible to repay, forcing borrowers to offer everything as interest.
Even family and friends of the debtors are implicated.
Such outrageous high-interest loans require more than just legends and demigods to enforce; this god often has to take action personally.
He even developed a method to subdivide Divine Power to the extreme.
Marking debtors with a sigil, which spreads through contracts, guild relations, marriage, and brotherhood ties.
Not everyone qualifies for a sigil.
But someone like Willis, who could survive in the Hall of Valor, certainly did. Consequently, his subordinates, through guild connections, also carried faint traces of the God of Trade and Conspiracy's Divine Power.
In theory, the source of Divine Assistance is this god.
So, Willis's biggest creditor is indeed the God of Trade and Conspiracy.
And because Willis's subordinates have the Divine Power mark of the God of Trade and Conspiracy.
This led to this group being targeted by the combination of the five deities.
The reason it was them is simply because Willis and his group happened to encounter the five deities shortly after their plan began...
Sterl didn't know all this information; he was just shocked to see.
The five deities reappeared, working together to raise a grand formation composed of multiple Divine Powers, completely sealing the surrounding space!
At this moment, the entire world seemed to be covered by a layer of frosted glass...
"You all..."
The God of Trade and Conspiracy was horrified, turning into a dark light to try and escape.
But how could he evade a formation set by several deities working together??
The dark light darted in all directions but found the space for free movement shrinking under the formation's control.
The God of Shadows and Conspiracy sneered, "With your strength, you can't guard these two divine authorities."
Gloria said coldly, "According to the rules, the first kill's spoils, the two divine authorities will be shared by Vorster and Faustus."
"All remaining resources will be divided among the three of us, and you two must each compensate us with 100 years' worth of condensed Divine Power or condensed faith."
"Additionally, the next shadow divine authority will go to me first."
Vorster, the God of Trade, and Faustus, the God of Shadows and Conspiracy.
The two deities grinned upon hearing this.
"No problem!"
"No problem!"
They were excited.
For deities, there is no more efficient way to grow stronger than absorbing the same type of divine authority!
Not only can they obtain similar Divine Power that is easy to refine with minimal loss, but they can also enhance the strength of their own divine authority!
Theoretically, the strength of a divine authority is fixed at the moment of ascension.
For instance, Gloria's [shadow] is slightly weaker than Faustus's [shadow].
But if the Dark Moon Goddess could absorb the shadow divine authority left by other fallen deities, she would have a chance to surpass Faustus.
"You crazy fools. How dare you attack me in the Hall of Valor!"
"We clearly agreed that after joining the Hall of Valor, all conflicts would cease!"
The forcibly summoned God of Trade and Conspiracy looked extremely grim.
At this moment, he had lost all divine dignity and composure, only thinking about fleeing in panic.
However, Faustus merely snorted, "Rules? The Hall of Valor's rules only protect the heroic spirits."
"We gods have no such protection."
"The so-called agreement... only works in peaceful times."
"With the great calamity approaching, who isn't eager to strengthen themselves?"
"Have you been living too comfortably?"
"Did you really think that joining the Hall of Valor meant you could sit back and relax??"
In the next second, the five deities attacked together!
Sterl realized that his avatar was instantly disconnected, seemingly crushed by an immensely powerful force. Although an avatar's death doesn't usually affect the true self, he felt a sharp, needle-like pain in his brain.
"What's wrong?" Once again, Faye keenly noticed Mr. "David's" abnormality.
Sterl was about to say it was nothing, but suddenly noticed the entire group looking in the direction they were walking towards—
The very spot where Sterl's avatar had been hiding.
The place where the five deities jointly hunted another deity!
The novices were dumbfounded.
