Chapter 75- Compensation
Chapter 75- Compensation
The performance went haywire, the moment Kyle fell down. He and Alatia assumed that once he had gotten the confirmation of being a hybrid, it wouldn't be a problem for him to give the assessment of being innocent in front of the others.
However, they made the severe mistake of miscalculating the risk of consuming divine blood. And as a result, Alatia was inches away from murdering her own family.
The time Kyle woke up, he found Alatia in a distraught state. Although he didn't witness her wings and those blood-red eyes, the way her face was ghastly pale signified she had overly consumed her energy.
If you pay attention to a person most of the time of their day, then you will notice such small changes in them.
The courtroom remained silent except for the slow whispers of the medic who checked upon Edward, Alatia and Kyle.
After the medic confirmed that there was nothing wrong with Kyle except for his slightly high blood pressure, the assessment concluded. And Kyle was proven to be innocent.
However, the shock of being attacked by his sister and seeing Alatia in such a state was shocking enough to not get any reaction towards Kyle's awakening.
They sat on their throne with a listless expressions except for Aiden—who was enjoying eating berries with a nonchalant attitude.
The first one to break the silence was Alatia, who still stood in the middle of the court with Kyle beside her.
The look in her eyes clearly told how hostile and hateful she was towards the Emperor and the first Prince, especially the latter.
"Have you done humiliating me and Kyle? Then I would like to bid my farewell. And please, unless there's an emergency, don't think I would be responding to any of your summons any more."
She stated those words with utmost sincerity since she meant what she said. The clear meaning behind her words was that she was severing ties with her family.
"Alatia, wait!" Edward panicked and so did the Emperor however the one who called out was Edmund.
She wasn't willing to listen, however, feeling Kyle's hand squeezing hers, she yielded and turned to look at him.
Edmund took a few steps and began, "I won't say things like whatever happened until now was justifiable and necessary, however for you to abandon the family would be unfair to our mothers and me."
Although there were no tears in his eyes, one could tell just by listening to his voice how emotional he currently was.
Gesturing toward the two Empresses who were still in tears, he added, "Are you really willing to separate yourself from them just because of someone else's wrong decision? You know that they didn't have any authority to stop what was transpiring in the court right?"
Alatia knew. Her mothers weren't given the power to interrupt the Emperor especially not when the subject was Alatia's safety.
However, "What about you? Why didn't you come forward and protest against the examination?"
A self-mocking smile extended Edmund's lips as he uttered, "If I had been regarded with such importance that my word could have changed Father's decision, then trust me, I would have been the first person to voice my opposition."
The Emperor's expression remained unchanged as he heard Edmund's words.
It wasn't a hidden fact that Edmund wasn't involved in important meetings and his opinion wasn't taken while making vital decisions.
Alatia narrowed her eyes and extended her other hand before saying, "Then come with me and leave this place where your words don't hold a speck of importance." Her offer was extended towards Edmund however her eyes were transfixed sternly at the man sitting on the throne.
"No one would be going anywhere." Suddenly the man who had spoken very little since the beginning and the person with the utmost authority in the room spoke up.
The heavy voice of the Emperor sounded like a command which one couldn't defy. However, it didn't affect Alatia who still seemed quite adamant about leaving.
"I accept that there has been misjudgement on our part but that doesn't allow you to leave the family, Princess." Domineeringly, he stated, "We have wronged the butler and for that, I am prepared to compensate."
"Oh, really? And for what would you compensate, father? For the humiliation Kyle faced, the pain he suffered from, or the fact that a father couldn't trust his own child?"
In this world, only two people could talk so daringly with the Emperor. And one of them was quite furious right now.
It was then, when suddenly Aiden called out, "Sis, is there any way to gain your forgiveness? Just tell them before our old man gets a stroke or something."
"Aiden!" Edmund reprimanded his younger brother for saying something so rashly however, Aiden showed no sign of being affected.
Edward finally got out of his reverie as he also asked; this time in a far softer tone, "If there is anything I can do to gain your forgiveness...please tell me."
The people have only seen the calculating and indifferent side of Edward, that's why this helpless state greatly surprised the ministers. However, none of them could understand the love he carries for his sister.
Kyle had a feeling that things had escalated beyond his expectations so he softly whispered to Alatia, "Don't resist anymore...please."
Hearing his soft plea, the words she was about to say, melted in her throat and the next time she parted her lips, the boulder from Edward's shoulders; lifted.
"I can forget about what happened today...if only Kyle gets permission to enter the Vault and take one thing from inside."
Her demand created a ruckus in the court. The ministers began to whisper to each other and their source of distress was undoubtedly related to what Alatia wished.
There was a delay and the response that arrived from the Emperor was unexpected, "If you are willing to forgive your brother for what happened today and continue your duties as the Princess then, I shall grant your wish."
Suddenly the commotion grew and the Prime Minister rose from his seat before hurriedly stating, "But Your Majesty...we are talking about the central vault. There are several secret weapons and important documents inside there which could easily be used against Valenchide."
Everyone present here was aware of the risk of letting an unauthorised member enter the Vault. Only the first Prince, the Prime Minister and the Emperor have ever entered the Vault. And now, a mere butler was getting permission to not only walk inside but take an item to his liking as well.
Outrageous!
However, the Emperor's decision was ultimate that's why he didn't think twice before declaring, "My decision is final. No further argument would be tolerated."
The commanding voice of the Emperor resonated heavily across the court and everyone, including the Prime Minister, quieted down.
Alatia gave a soft squeeze to his hand and smirked at his dumbfounded expression.
She said that she would taking a favour from her father. She never mentioned the Vault at all!
