Chapter 140: Library -2
Chapter 140: Library -2
Maverick waved his hand in the air as a signal for them to leave. The maids hurriedly left since it was their only chance to survive. Maverick quickly washed himself and wore his sleeping robe as he laid flatly on his bed in deep concentration.
What went wrong?
No one knows but it was not me who stabbed Severus. I still do not understand what went wrong in our friendship. I admit I was always jealous of him, but I was aware of the fact that I was the crown prince. The only son of king Marquis, the crown prince of Rivera Kingdom. There was no one beside me who could take the throne. Despite sharing a brotherhood bond, going through many ups and downs, battling several fatal wars fighting side by side by being as each other's shield we gained a lot. We were happy but then things started changing. A pretty girl came into our life when we were just adolescents. I was frail but I was the crown prince and Severus despite being handsome was nothing but just my shadow knight. From childhood, my father taught me the bitter truth of the world and that was the reason I became sensitive and my emotional intelligence surpassed his. I was aware of what was going on. I very well understood what my father was trying to do. Despite being sworn brothers there were several things that I did not share with him and why? Because I was going to be the next king. I needed to be secretive.
I admit I am conceited, vicious, and idiot in love but my brotherhood was never fake.
I agree I wanted you dead since I cannot withstand Melanie's loving gazes for you. You are such an idiot brother. You never understood but I was always aware that Melanie was using you. Since childhood she used you and as everyone says, Love is a game that turns its players into fools.
See we all three became fools.
I was always carefree since I knew Melanie's blood. She belonged to a family that never cared about anything instead of their profit. They killed, massacred, murdered, wreaked havoc. Kidnapped woman, and what else was not there in her family sins. How can a woman of such bold be pure and faithful as she always depicted?
Helpless?
I always knew she was not.
She was always a fox in sheep's skin. Alas! My dear brother, you fell straight into her trap.
I always wondered why she fell for you? If we compare us, then I certainly am more credential than you. I am rich, handsome, royal, and powerful if we ignore my frail heath but what did you have? An orphan, a rugged lapdog, a filthy guard with no one in to rely on. You were even penniless. I wonder what mindset you had for working under someone like my father but then again, it is useless.
Everything is useless.
That so-called love is useless.
The filial piety is useless.
Friendship is useless.
There is no truth in our lives and when there is everything fake then why should I bother to find when I am aware that I will be met with disappointment and if that is the case then so be it.
Melanie, I promise I will find what you and my father are cooking in the shadows. I know I am very close to the truth and when I will seek it then you both better start praying for reverse counts for yourself.
Maverick burned with hatred. He didn't know why but everything nowadays seems futile to him.
Maverick slowly got up from his bed as he started rummaging his shelf. Soon he found his flute and he started playing it. This had always been his peace giver whenever his mind was in chaos. A sweet melody engulfed the whole room as if explaining the emotions of a maverick that were hidden deep inside his heart. A place where no one ever made his way.
Sometimes I can't find the words. That fills my messy head. Can't find the effort to smile. Or get out of my silly old bed.
The world just sometimes feels like. I don't fit and don't belong, and even when I make the effort, A smile just doesn't last long.
I could pretend with all my might that I am the happiest I can be. Surrounded by the world, it seems Lonelier I couldn't be.
Not sure what may be the answer. Not sure if I'm really keen to spend another day here, Living this dreadful dream.
But I must find some courage, Light a fire inside my heart and find a love for life again, And I know where I shall start.
I'll walk in the forest. And feel the crisp sea breeze. And lay among the meadow. And listen to all the bees.
I'll figure out the mayhem and gaze at all the stars. And dance at every sunset with a smile inside my heart.
Thud!
Flute slipped from the hands of Maverick as tears welled inside her eyes and no one was there to understand what exactly went wrong.
-------
Outside Marquis library.
[Severus]
"What?"
[This is the way to the library, not the study of kings. Gimme a break and tell me why we are here?]
Noworry became impatient.
Severus statelet crossed the corridor and hid behind the big vase that was placed outside the library. He blends into the darkness instantly with no traces. Now his preparation was all done thus he turned to answer back a certain chirpy bird.
"Reeve...There is a secret way to his study from this library. King Marquis is a person who doesn't like crowds thus he made a separate library for him and since it was separate, he thought about making the library as his study, so his personal library is also his study. You remember the same place where you snooped on me"
[...]
[So?]
"Nothing. There are some rare occasions when he needs books that were not present inside his libraries like some ancient books. Even if he wants, he still cannot keep them for himself since there are a bunch of people researching them. I bet that sly fox is using this research as a decoy to uncover the truth about the map. It's not like he will allow those bunch of rusty news to come inside his library thus Maverick drops by himself whenever he needs something since this research mission is Rivera kingdoms one of the top-secret missions. Marquis ahead literally spend money on this mission like water. No matter how many resources they wanted he never questioned them. Not for a once"
Noworry felt like all this as useless drama.
Ah well, he cannot be blamed for thinking that way since he was already a powerful being.
Here we go.
Severus waited till the night guards changed their shifts and in the meantime, while they were changing Severus snuck inside the library. It was not new to him as Maverick and Severus were used to snooping around the main palace while they were adolescents. They sometimes founded buried treasures or some rusty scrolls while exploring. It was thanks to all that exploring that he knew the main palace like the back of his hand.
The library was huge. The tall shelves contained thousands of books on various genres starting from artifacts, literature, poetry, fiction, fantasy to devotional scripts. There was a separate space for the handwritten manuscripts and ancient books.
Severus was exploring the library when he saw Melanie inside the library. She was still in her sleeping robe.
[This bitch doesn't have even an ounce of shame. See how vulgarly she is dressed. Is this the way a soon to be bride should behave? Wandering in her sleeping robe inside a lonesome and dark library. I wonder how Maverick tolerates here]
"...."
Although Severus felt that Melanie should not be here at this time of the night. It was rather suspicious. He noticed she was reading something which caught his attention. In the time he had spent with Melanie Severus had never seen her reading anything. Melanie was the perfect example of beauty with a brain. She was exceptionally talented in poetry but after she completed her studies, she never touched it again. He still remembers how she had made a fuss in her childhood to learn combat. At that time everyone was perplexed with her choice but facing a crying Melanie everyone finally receded to her wishes. Only Severus and Maverick could touch her while training, as well as a female combat teacher, who was specially hired for her.
No one would have expected Melanie to do this for Severus.
Alas!
The innocence of childhood faded and soon the conceit of adultery hugged her.
Severus focused his eyes to see what she was reading however he was speechless when he saw it. The book she was reading was from the fantasy genre. A tragic love story of a girl who was married to her enemy.
"..."
[Tch]
Since when did she start reading such stuff? No wonder she started behaving so strangely.
Silently Severus crossed the section of fantasy and soon was standing in front of a pillar.
